SMHS Earns State Recognition

A white certificate titled School of Recognition Award from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, presented to Sandwich Middle High School.
For the 2026 accountability data released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in September 2026, exactly 56 public schools were designated as Schools of Recognition. This represents approximately 3% of all public schools across the state. We are proud to announce that Sandwich Middle High School is one of the 56 schools awarded the title School of Recognition. The school was recognized for three key factors: growth in student MCAS scores, % of student body accessing advanced (AP) coursework, and reduction of chronic absenteeism. More regarding this recogntion may be found at this link.

Last Thursday and Friday, Oak Ridge and Forestdale students and families participated in Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Day, sponsored by Sandwich Recreation and supported by the Sandwich Police and Fire Departments.

Students and families gathered at the Corpus Christi Parish (for Oak Ridge) and Oak Crest Cove beach parking lot and made their way to Forestdale School along a ½-mile route by walking, biking, rollerblading, and riding scooters. The event provided students with an active and positive start to their school day while bringing families and our community together.
Beginning the morning with physical activity helped students arrive at school energized, engaged, and ready to learn. Beyond the physical benefits, the event reinforced the importance of healthy choices, independence, and community connection.

A special thank-you to Sandwich Recreation, Sandwich Police, and Sandwich Fire for helping make this event possible and for supporting the safety of our students and families. We look forward to bringing everyone together again for another Walk, Ride, and Roll event this spring!

Seniors Get Lessons in Finances

The Sandwich Middle High School Class of 2027 took a major step toward independence by participating in the Cape Cod 5 Credit for Life Fair, an immersive financial literacy event designed to prepare students for life after high school.

To kick off the experience, each student selected a potential career path for their post-secondary future and was assigned a corresponding starting budget. Equipped with their financial profile, students navigated through interactive booths to speak directly with community professionals and key stakeholders.

They exercised managing real-world expenses like housing, car loans, higher education debt, credit card management, and daily lifestyle costs. This interactive exercise challenged students to make thoughtful choices, balance a budget, and understand the real impact of financial decisions.

Financial literacy is an essential foundation for our students' long-term success. We extend our sincere gratitude to Cape Cod 5 and all of the community partners who generously volunteered their time to guide and empower our students during this memorable event.
