Forestdale School Weekly Update

September 20, 2026

Pre-K

Our littlest learners started school on Monday this week.  Three year olds come in the morning and our 4-5 year olds come in the afternoon.  Students worked on the routines of classroom learning.  I can say the afternoon pk students are expert singers - especially with their end of the day "goodbye" song!  Click here to look at images from our Pre-K students' first day.

International Dot Day

Tuesday, September 15th - International Dot Day -  was a huge success. Students and staff celebrated with dotted clothing and a plethora of dot day activities.  Second graders worked together to make a dot mural that is hanging in the second grade hallway.  Students decorated dot pages, played games hopping on dots, listened to The Dot by Peter Reynolds and created their own "Dot" artwork.  Here is a read aloud on YouTube of The Dot  by Peter Reynolds if you are not familiar with the story.  Click the link below to look at more photos of Dot Day around Forestdale.
Students show off their dot day attire - shirts with polka dots and dotted dresses. Students are playing a game of jumping on the dots.

Community Meeting

This week we held our first school wide community meeting. This is a monthly gathering where we follow the Responsive Classroom meeting format of having a greeting, doing an activity, sharing and then saying goodbye.  Students chanted a hello to greet everyone in the MPR. Next we sang the Forestdale Song - and boy were the students great singers today!  The group activity was "Would You Rather" and students indicated their choice by putting up one or two fingers.  Choices included - drawing or painting, indoor or outdoor learning, slides or swings, and so many other fun ones.  After a brief discussion of Respect and Responsibility - our character traits we are working on this month, students learned and helped to sing goodbye to all participants.  Next month we will meet again in the MPR to share how students showed Respect and Responsibility at the start of the school year.

Photos from the week

Students explored classroom materials this week.  Top right you see a student building with pattern blocks.  In the middle photo, students are exploring and creating with other manipulatives.  Top center and top right photos show Officer Halloran and his Sandwich PD Colleague handing out stickers to students in the cafeteria.  Middle left photo shows 2nd grade students working on the circle mural now hanging in the 2nd grade hallway.  Bottom left pic shows a student having so much fun dancing at Dance Party Friday.  Bottom middle and right photos show Lennon getting lots of love - from students coming into school, and from kindergarten students on a walk in PE.
Photos of students around school. Students explored math manipulatives in class. 2nd graders created a "dot" mural to share with the school. Our SRO and his Sandwich Police colleague came to lunch to give stickers to students. Lennon got lots of loves - at buses first thing in the morning, and on a walk with kindergarteners. BOKS Registration

Forestdale BOKS is a free before-school program inspired by Reebok's science-based BOKS programming. BOKS is an acronym for BUILD OUR KIDS' SUCCESS and we build that success through movement, music and play!

The program incorporates functional movements and team building activities that help kick-start our day. The fall session of Forestdale BOKS is open to students in grades 1 & 2. Forestdale BOKS takes place in the Forestdale Gymnasium. The fall session starts 10/6/26 and runs until 11/26/26.

There will be a Monday/Wednesday session and Tuesday/Thursday session. We ask that
families only register for one session, due to large numbers of registration.

Drop off is located at the same exterior doors used for parent pickup located by the gymnasium. The gym doors will open for drop off between 7:55 AM and 8:05 AM. Students will be dismissed to their classrooms or to the cafeteria for breakfast at 8:45 AM.
