SMHS Incident & Police Investigation

Dear SPS Families-

The Sandwich Public Schools is currently working in conjunction with the Sandwich Police Department and the Cape & Islands DA’s Office in an investigation of a Sandwich Middle High School student who made a specific threat against two students. The families of the two students have been informed of the situation and are working with authorities. The threat was discovered late last week through the student’s use of a school-issued device, as our district safety app, GoGuardian, flagged threatening language and immediately alerted school administration. Very rapidly our School Resource Officer, along with the Sandwich Police Department, commenced an investigation. That investigation and adjudication through appropriate agencies is ongoing.

The student has not been in school since this incident nor will be in school during the remaining days. We are grateful for our partnership with the SPD and their quick action to ensure that all students and staff remain safe.
