SMHS Girls Lacrosse Team- State Champs!

Congratulations to the Sandwich Middle High School Girls Lacrosse Team who captured its first-ever state championship with a 9-6 victory over Ipswich in the MIAA Division 4 Girls Lacrosse Final on June 11. The teams traded goals throughout the first three quarters and were tied five times, including at 6-6 early in the fourth quarter. Senior Paige Morrison broke the deadlock with a free-position goal, choosing to shoot instead of pass and giving the Blue Knights a lead they would not surrender. The momentum continued as Elisabeth Stutzman assisted Lydia Katzenback for another goal and later completed her hat trick to extend Sandwich’s advantage. Players credited their years of hard work, determination, and composure for finally reaching the top. Head coach Kelsy Beaton celebrated the historic win while emphasizing that the achievement belonged to the players who made school history.

"Step Up" Days Across the District

Over the last week, both Sandwich Middle High School and the Oak Ridge School held "step up" days for 6th and 2nd grade students to welcome them into their new school communities for next year.

At SMHS, the Peer Leaders welcomed incoming 6th graders. Throughout the visit, students toured the building and had the opportunity to ask questions about life at SMHS. Most importantly, they met some friendly faces who will help make their transition to middle school a positive one.

In a similar fashion, 6th grade Student Council members at Oak Ridge did a fantastic job in welcoming Forestdale 2nd graders and leading tours throughout the building, helping the visitors explore their future school.

A special thank you to the Sandwich Elementary PTA for providing the book, Adventures as a New Student at Oak Ridge School, to every 2nd grade student. The book, written by Dr. Mary Kate Stevens and Alexis Bronner and beautifully illustrated by Carly Smith, walks students through the exciting learning, opportunities, and experiences that await them next year.

Crazy Eights Math Club Sparks Creativity

Crazy Eights Math Club is a Forestdale before school club facilitated by Math Instructional Coach, Kelly Hart and Math Interventionist Michelle Eddy.

This year, students in grades 1 and 2 enthusiastically participated in the Crazy Eights Math Club, where they explored the fun and excitement of mathematics through hands-on games, puzzles, challenges, and collaborative activities. The club provided opportunities for students to strengthen their number sense, problem-solving skills, and mathematical thinking in a playful and engaging environment. Through teamwork, creativity, and perseverance, students discovered that math is more than just numbers, it is about curiosity, critical thinking, and having fun while learning. We are proud of our young mathematicians for their enthusiasm, positive attitudes, and willingness to take on new challenges throughout the year.
