On Friday, May 22nd, all Forestdale students enjoyed an ice cream treat during lunch. This long-standing Forestdale tradition has been celebrated for many years, providing every student with an ice cream , or a flavored ice option for students with food allergies, on the Friday before February Break and again on the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend.
These special moments help foster a strong sense of community and give students an opportunity to celebrate together before each well-deserved break.

Last week, our second grade students had an exciting and memorable visit to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where they explored the Academy’s state-of-the-art boat simulator, toured the campus, and learned about the unique experiences and opportunities cadets encounter while preparing for careers in the maritime industry.
The trip was an incredible success and a highlight for everyone involved. Students were highly engaged and inspired by the hands-on experiences, staff enjoyed watching students make meaningful real-world connections, and the MMA cadets were outstanding hosts who enthusiastically shared their knowledge, experiences, and passion for maritime careers with our students.

On Friday, May 22nd, the Sandwich DPW visited our second grade students at Forestdale School in recognition of National Department of Public Works Week, celebrated May 17th–23rd. DPW staff brought several trucks and pieces of equipment for students to explore, giving them an exciting firsthand look at the important work they do each day to keep the Town of Sandwich running safely and smoothly.
As a special thank you, our second grade students proudly presented the DPW team with handmade artwork to recognize and celebrate their dedicated service to the Sandwich community. The visit was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with community helpers and learn more about the vital role public works professionals play in our town.

First graders at Forestdale are eagerly welcoming the arrival of their baby chicks as eggs begin hatching right inside their classrooms.
Earlier this month, first grade classes placed 48 fertilized chicken eggs into classroom incubators, creating an exciting hands-on learning experience connected to science, nature, and the life cycle of animals.
The eggs, provided by the Barnstable Farm & Pet Store, are now beginning to hatch, giving students the unique opportunity to witness this incredible natural process unfold before their eyes. The excitement throughout the classrooms has been contagious as students observe the chicks emerging and learning firsthand about growth, care, and responsibility.
Several interested Forestdale families have already signed up to provide loving forever homes for the baby chicks once they are ready to leave the classroom. Here are some more pictures:

Forestdale students are currently participating in their popular bike riding, scooter, and balance unit during physical education classes. This exciting unit encourages students to build confidence, coordination, balance, and safe riding skills while promoting the importance of outdoor physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
Held in the visitor parking area across from the gymnasium entrance, the program has quickly become a student favorite. Aside from a few minor scrapes and scratched knees or elbows that naturally come with learning new skills, students have been enthusiastically embracing the opportunity to experience the timeless joy of riding bikes and scooters outdoors with their classmates.
A tremendous thank you goes to the Sandwich Elementary PTA for generously providing the funding to purchase nearly 20 bikes and scooters for student use. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Ride Away Adventures Dave Milligan for his continued support and assistance with routine maintenance and upkeep of the bikes and scooters, helping keep this program running safely and successfully for our students.

Students and staff have enthusiastically begun planting, decorating, and personalizing their new garden beds as the Forestdale Garden quickly comes to life. The garden spaces are already becoming vibrant areas for hands-on learning, creativity, teamwork, and school pride as classrooms work together to make each bed unique.
Pictured are students from Mrs. Tompkins’, Mrs. Weiner’s, and Mrs. Walsh’s second grade classrooms after spending time working together in their garden space. Students were excited to dig, plant, and help create a welcoming environment they can continue to care for and enjoy throughout the growing season.
