Students in the PLTW Computer Science Essentials Innovation Career Pathway visited the United States Coast Guard Base Cape Cod, where they toured both the Air Station and Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST). The experience helped students make meaningful real-world connections between their classroom learning and the many career opportunities available within the Coast Guard and related industries.
The visit was made possible through the outreach efforts of Robert C. Cardosa, who connected with Sandwich Public Schools to help build a strong community partnership.
Students learned how the Coast Guard collaborates with civilian companies to analyze environmental impact, develop flight systems, and provide protective clothing and specialized equipment.
Experiences like this highlight how the PLTW Computer Science Essentials Innovation Career Pathway gives students valuable experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for a wide range of high-demand careers.
