Digital Wellness Lab

Dear Sandwich School Families,
We’re excited to share an upcoming community-wide event! On Tuesday, April 28th, Sandwich
Schools are partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital’s Digital Wellness Lab to host A Day of
Digital Wellbeing.
The Digital Wellness Lab will be working with our students throughout the school day, offering
age-appropriate workshops and presentations that focus on:
● Understanding how online spaces are designed and how they affect us
● Building awareness about our digital habits and choices
● Developing skills to feel more balanced and confident online
● Recognizing that we have the power to make intentional decisions about technology use
This day is meant to create a shared knowledge base that students, faculty, and parents can
use to discuss balanced digital media use at home and in school. As such, the student
workshops will be followed by an evening talk at 5:30PM open to the greater Sandwich
community featuring speakers from the Boston Children’s Digital Wellness Lab.
We are offering the evening presentation as an opportunity for families to collect tools for
learning alongside their children as we all explore how technology impacts our wellbeing.

March Madness

Oak Ridge students brought their A-game in a 14-day March Madness showdown, scoring a total of 7,799 math and reading lessons. Third grade led the fast break with 2,100+ lessons, while fifth grade followed with a slam dunk 2,000+. Fourth and sixth grades controlled the paint, adding nearly 3,700 combined.
These competitors showed incredible hustle, tackling complex comprehension and math strategies with the focus of seasoned pros on a full-court press. To celebrate the win, students from the winning classes will enjoy an extra recess with the coaches.

Winning homerooms: Ms. Scudder & Mrs. Denmat/Palie, Mrs. Neske & Mr. Guerra, Mrs. Hunt & Ms. Fragano, and Mrs. Gould/Taylor & Mrs. Santoni.

Oak Ridge Student Beat

An interview between Mrs. Phinney and Cora who played Annie in this week's production of Annie Jr!

Behind the Scenes with Cora

How is your character similar to you? How are they different?

She is different because I am not an orphan, I don’t live with a millionaire, and I don’t have red hair.

I think Annie is really caring, and that is similar to me. It is kind of hard to compare yourself to a fictional character.

What was your favorite scene to perform? Why?
I think it was the first scene with all of the orphans because I got to be the parental figure at the orphanage, and I liked how all of the kids looked up to me. The song Maybe during that scene is a really sweet song.

How do you memorize all of your lines?

Basically, at all of the rehearsals. I knew all of the cast’s lines, so I knew my responses. I would also ask my friends to run lines with me so I could practice when we were not rehearsing.

You have a beautiful singing voice and hit some high notes! Have you taken any voice lessons?

I have not taken any.

What was it like to work with Sandy?

She was really sweet. She was such a good singing partner. She is so cute and well-behaved when I needed her to stay next to me. The apple was a Kong full of cookie butter (Ms. Paquin is allergic to nuts, so we had to improvise), and she licked, it and I held her collar just in case.

Would you like to add anything else?

It was a great experience for my first show in the Drama Club at Oak Ridge. The cast was professional and supportive.
