SMHS artists are showcasing their work at the Spaulding Rehabilitation facility on Service Road, Sandwich. The exhibit features work from four SMHS students.
Annabelle Marchand (Senior) showcases two gouache paintings, a medium that blends qualities of both acrylic and watercolor. Her kitchen scene, one of her largest works, highlights both figure and setting, while her train painting focuses on lighting and color, developed over the summer. Annabelle describes art as something that has always been part of her life, and she continues to create as a way to honor her growth and make her younger self proud.
Jesse Peterson (Senior) showcases a cityscape painting inspired by his goal of expanding his skill set through working with different media. Influenced by blurry, stylized city scenes, Jesse aimed to recreate that effect in his own way. His work includes small, personal details that may go unnoticed by most viewers, while still leaving the overall interpretation open. Jesse emphasizes that each viewer brings their own meaning to the piece, allowing the artwork to connect differently with everyone who sees it.
Kylee Beaudoin (Senior) explores emotion and interpretation through her work. Her “Colorful Explosion” piece represents the release of emotion, while her “Falling Perspective” piece captures the fear and uncertainty of being pulled into the unknown. Kylee’s artistic approach centers on evoking emotion without a fixed message, allowing viewers to form their own connections. She embraces both careful planning and experimentation, using unexpected moments in her process as opportunities for growth.
Dahlia Edwards (Junior) presents two pieces: an acrylic unicorn painting inspired by a photograph she took of her own sculpture, and a watercolor landscape based on a moment captured while out on a boat. Dahlia shares that she enjoys art because it allows her to turn her own ideas into something real. This year, she is focused on exploring new techniques and projects as she continues to develop her artistic voice.
This exhibit offers a meaningful opportunity for students to share their creativity with the community while continuing to grow as artists.

Although we know characters in books never really die, grade 9 English students in Ms. Horan's classes said farewell to the beloved characters from The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by writing and reading a eulogy about one of the characters who passed.
Some wrote in the perspective of a fellow character while others wrote their speech in old English to emulate Shakespeare’s writing.
A small reception was held after the funeral which offered foods and music from the Elizabethan era. It was a dramatic farewell and a lesson no one will forget!

Members of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society completed a series of projects focused on preserving and exploring local history. After visiting the Sandwich Town Archives, students designed projects connecting to the school and community.
Projects ranged from researching the history of the Cape Cod Canal and local maritime traditions to documenting community stories, restoring gravestones, and highlighting important cultural and historical topics within Sandwich. Some students conducted interviews, created websites and presentations, and even developed materials for younger audiences to make local history more accessible.
