This Week on the Ridge

This week, students participated in i-Ready diagnostic testing, which helps us see the great growth they are making. Mrs. Kneller has shared some of her great Podcasting knowledge with fifth graders and we enjoyed a wonderful Spinnaker Art Show in the Spinnaker classroom featuring some truly impressive student artwork—thank you to Mrs. Barros and the Spinnaker team for hosting this wonderful event.

Our educators also had a fantastic day of learning on Friday, with many staff members leading engaging and inspiring sessions.

The 'ultimate' prize of the week was a “Party in a Box,” topped off with the chance to pie an administrator in the face, which was a prize for the Ultimate Ultimate Ultimate school-wide challenge!

Grade 6 Class Officers

At Oak Ridge, grade six students have the opportunity to become part of the Grade Six Student Council. This group plans student events, provides feedback to staff for school improvement, and represents their peers as leaders in the building. Class Officers are elected by their peers in the fall and serve throughout the school year. Recently, our Class Officers have been working with Principal Dunphy and Instructional Coach Lynne Phinney to plan author visits for every grade level happening this spring! Sixth grade teachers Noelle Cronin and Jack Branco serve as co-advisors for our Grade Six Student Council. This group gives our Oak Ridge students their first opportunity to serve in student government and provides a platform for students to build invaluable leadership skills.

This year, with the help of the awesome Oak Ridge community, the student council organized the donation of over 2,600 items to the Sandwich Food Pantry. They organized and volunteered for the Family Pumpkin Night (including setting up and cleaning up!)
AND made the 3rd-grade movie night possible by volunteering their time to collect tickets/sell snacks, etc. Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work!

Reminders & Updates

When club offerings are released, the name of the club in addition to the registration form will be posted on Parent Square. Given that clubs are first-come-first-serve, the offering will be posted "instantly" and override the "digest" setting, so that all families are receiving the alert at the same time.

We have many clubs with similar pick-up times during the winter months. Please review the pick-up locations listed below.

Because of the number of clubs being offered this winter, we ask that families stagger their pick-up locations to help ensure a smooth and safe process for everyone.

To access the upper parking lot, please veer left as you enter the school grounds. For the lower parking lot, please veer right. If you are picking up from the bus loop, kindly pull all the way forward to help keep traffic moving efficiently.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping club dismissal safe and moving smoothly!

Attendance

Daily attendance is more than a requirement—it’s a powerful indicator of future success. Research shows that attendance in grades 5–7 strongly predicts high school graduation outcomes.

Here are a few key attendance facts that show why daily presence during these years matters:
Quick Attendance Facts

If a student misses… | That equals… | By the end of the year…

1 day every 2 weeks | 20 days per year | They’ve missed one full month of school

1 day a week | 40 days per year | They’ve missed two full months of school

10 minutes a day | 50 minutes a week | They’ve missed nearly 6 full days of instruction
