SHMS Reads to Forestdale

A boy in a Santa hat reads a book titled 'Wake Up, Sleepyhead!' to a group of children sitting on a colorful rug in a classroom.
A Sandwich Middle High School student reads a book to a group of children sitting in a circle on the classroom floor.
Part of our district's new Strategic Plan, Learning & Leading, envisions creating more connections between our schools, for both students and staff. This vision was on display on Friday, December 12th, 7th grade students of Sandwich Middle High School teachers Ms Silvestri and Ms Strano visited Forestdale to read to Mrs. Duvall's Kindergarten and Ms Moynihan's 1st grade classrooms.

It was a great experience for both the Forestdale and SMHS students. Please enjoy the photos at this link: Reading Pictures

A special thanks also to Assistant Principal Dr. Mary Kate Stevens for lending her musical talents on the violin!

Student Solve Tackles Real World Challenges

Five young people sit around a table in a classroom, some looking at a laptop.
On December 12 Sandwich Middle School students took on real-world challenges through the One8 Student Solve, an immersive experience that connects classroom learning with real-world problem solving. During the event, students worked in teams alongside industry and community mentors to tackle authentic challenges and develop creative, thoughtful solutions.

Partnering with the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), a nonprofit organization that raises funds for cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, students explored mission-driven challenges related to community engagement and large-scale event planning, gaining insight into how problem solving and innovation support meaningful impact.

One student team was mentored by Mr. Kevin Sareault, a 30-year Pan-Mass Challenge participant and Chair of the Sandwich School Committee, whose long-standing commitment to PMC offered students a powerful perspective on leadership, service, and perseverance.

SMHS’s participation highlights the school's commitment to applied learning, community partnerships, and preparing students to see themselves as capable problem solvers beyond the classroom.
