A MADLY MAGNIFICIENT KTC IN WONDERLAND

Alice from our KTC production
Congratulations to the Knights Theatre Club on a truly wonderful Wonderland performance. Alice in Wonderland happened because of KTC students. Your creativity, collaboration, and determination pulled the club together and turned understandable panic in September into something spectacular on stage in December.

A million thanks to our talented KTC Director Anthony Teixeira on his first KTC production, a fantastic achievement and an exciting start! We are so happy you're here at SMHS!

A heartfelt thank you to all of the KTC seniors for their leadership and legacy, and to our two KTC co-presidents, Peter Milburn and Marty Mulroy for stepping up, taking initiative, and guiding the work from start to finish. This production was student-driven in the best way, and it showed. Bravo to all involved! 🎭

We're already looking forward to KTC's spring musical! 🎭

Competency Determination Policy Update

At the request of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), all school districts were required to submit an updated Competency Determination (CD) policy by December 31, 2025. As part of this statewide requirement, Sandwich Public Schools updated its CD policy, which was approved by the School Committee at the December 10 meeting. You can read the updated policy here.

There are no changes to graduation expectations for students. All requirements included in the revised policy are already in place.

The updates clarify existing practices, including adding U.S. History to the CD, outlining the student appeal process, and explaining how current or former students may request a transcript review. The policy also more clearly reflects supports for English Learners and students with disabilities that are already provided.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeanne Nelson at jnelson@sandwich.k12.ma.us or call (508) 888-4900.

MERRY, MERRY, MERRY!

Holiday Market sign
The SMHS Holiday Market was a wonderful success! Ms. Jocelyn Greenberg and Ms. Amanda Neill's students spent weeks crafting and baking, and it was amazing to see their hard work pay off. Shoppers enjoyed handmade gift bags and cards, along with cookies, fudge, and other sweet treats.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to support our students. All proceeds will go toward classroom activities and future community outings. We are so proud of our students!

JOYEUX NOËL: A FESTIVE DAY IN FRENCH CLUB

Students in French club celebrating holiday
French Club students mixed laughter, French traditions with a bit of friendly chaos by playing a lively round of “Hot and Cold” in French, of course! Each student took a turn trying to find the hidden lutin. The room was filled with calls of “plus chaud ! plus froid !” and plenty of cheering.

Then came the star of the afternoon: the bûche de Noël. Students learned that this classic French holiday cake dates back to an old tradition of burning a special log for good luck. Their version was much tastier: chocolate!

The meeting wrapped up with a gift exchange, filled with thoughtful surprises. By the end, it wasn’t just about the game or the cake; it was about sharing traditions, making memories, and feeling connected.

It was a perfect French Club day: sweet, silly, and full of holiday spirit.

If your student is interested in joining the French Club, please reach out to Madame Julie Walsh at jwalsh@sandwich.k12.ma.us

SMHS STUDENTS CRACKING THE CODE

Mr. Gifford’s Cyber Security students and Mr. Welch’s Introduction to Criminal Justice students stepped out of the classroom and into the digital trenches at the Bridgewater State University Cyber Range where they took on the vocational roles of a cybersecurity incident response team for the fictional company, "Level Up Gaming."
The stakes were high: Level Up Gaming was hit by a massive $25 million ransomware attack just days before the release of their flagship title, Galactic Guardians.

Through this immersive simulation, our students were tasked with:
  • Investigating the Breach: Using digital forensics labs to identify if the attack came from keylogging or credential harvesting.
  • Ethical Hacking: Signing "White Hat" agreements and learning the strict legal and moral boundaries of cyber investigation.
  • Crisis Management: balancing technical problem-solving with the pressure of public perception and financial fallout.

This experience provided a peek into the future of criminal justice careers, proving that modern investigations require critical thinking and technical skill. Great job to our SMHS cyber-defenders!

Getting to the Heart of the Matter ❤️

Students in Mr. Zach Boykin’s Principles of Biomedical Science class explored and dissected a sheep heart. Students closely examined the external and internal anatomy of the heart.

This lab experience demanded critical thinking and real-world application of biomedical science concepts, allowing students to learn by doing and extend their understanding of human and animal anatomy.
