Brrrr! Chilly AND super snowy! I hope this 'scoop finds you safe, cozy, and enjoying a Pats win. No school tomorrow, so kids and adults alike can fully enjoy the winter wonderland that has surrounded our area.

Last week celebrated the Patriots with a spirit day on Friday. Students throughout the school had PJ/stuffy days as earned rewards. Families came to visit Kindergarten to see wonderful animal research projects, and first graders adopted and named a stuffed puppy to have as a classroom reading partner. This is truly just a snapshot of all the wonderful things our teachers do with students to enhance their learning.

This week we are embarking on the "Great Kindness Challenge". Below, please find resources for families to join in with the Kindness Week challenges. Please reach out should you have any questions.

Enjoy your snowy, chilly week!

Go Pats!

Students started the cheering for our New England Patriots on Friday by dressing in the team's colors or gear! While this message went to print prior to the game, this writer is hopeful for a WIN and that we are once again headed to the Superbowl.

Indoor Recess

We do make every attempt to get outside and give the students some fresh air and room to move about. Some days, it is just too cold - windy or rainy for us to venture outside. On these days, students typically stay in the classroom and play game, have free "crafting" time, draw - their choice of unstructured play. Recess is often wrapped up with a gross motor/movement activity such as "Go Noodle" or other type of moving, dancing activity.

Students in PK and K often take advantage of the MPR (multi purpose room) for their unstructured play time. In these photos you see a number of classes sharing the space to build with big blocks, connecting toys and to run around and make lots of noise! It is such a joyful sound to hear the squeals of laughter and joy as these students burn off their extra energy!

Fun things in Forestdale

Teachers add extra little fun things to do as a way to celebrate some great class work, or to add a play component to the learning. Above are some first graders from Mrs. Sullivan's class making "dog collars" for their adopted reading pup. These stuffies stay in the class and students read to them during independent reading time! I can attest that the pets are great listeners and are SO well behaved when being read to.

Ms. Lassit's second grade classroom had some camping reading as a fun way to do some independent reading. Students covered their desks with towels, sheets or blankets and used a flashlight to read their books in their "tents".

PJ and stuffy day is a fun class reward that students vote for! This week Ms. Dimmick's class Ms. Binn's (Tedeschi) class and Mrs. Eastman's class enjoyed a fun day in pj's with their favorite stuffed animals.

This week, Mrs. Polcari's class (Mrs. Leigh) read books with Mrs. Elliott's kindergarten class. This is such a nice way for different classes to celebrate learning together. Kindergarteners can read to their "big buddy" - who can help with the challenging words. 2nd graders can model their strong reading skills to the fully engaged K "little buddy".

Mrs. Duvall's kindergarten class invited families to see and hear about their animal projects. Each K student researched an animal, wrote a factual sentence about that animal, completed a "cereal box" project with info about the animal, and created a 3d artistic version of the animal studied. Each student got up in front of all the adults, read their sentence and proudly showed off their creations. Nice work Kindergarten.

Forestdale Great Kindness Spirit Week

The Great Kindness Challenge

Our school is proudly participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, a week-long program dedicated to creating a culture of kindness and compassion in communities worldwide.

To help our students practice kindness and put their compassion into action, they will receive a Great Kindness Challenge checklist.

We will encourage all students to complete as many acts of kindness as possible at school and hope they feel inspired to continue them at
home.

Together, let’s lift each other up, cheer each other on and show theworld that KINDNESS MATTERS!
