Free Meal Program has been Extended
Posted on 09/12/2020

Sandwich Public Schools is pleased to announce that the USDA recently extended the summer free meal program through the start of the 2020-21 school year. This allows us to serve completely free and nutritious meals to all children 18 years and under, regardless of their situation.

All families are still encouraged to fill out a Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application, including families whose financial situation has changed due to the pandemic. This USDA program has limited funding, and could end abruptly. An application may ensure a student receives free or reduced price meals when this USDA program ends.

We know that many families continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the 2020-21 school year, Sandwich Public Schools recognizes that children are learning in completely new environments. With the stress of adapting to long-term remote learning and/or hybrid model teaching, and changes to our normal routine, this move by the USDA removes one key stressor: feeding the children. Whether that be in the cafeteria, in the classroom, or at home, we understand the importance of a nutritious and filling meal. Quality nutrition has the power to help kids stay focused and do their best work under both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances. Parents and guardians can also choose to pick up meals at Sandwich High School for students learning remotely.
The Free and Reduced Price Meals Application can be found on he Sandwich Schools website and mailed to:
